A father-son drama, 'Being Charlie' is about 18-year-old Charlie (Nick Robinson) who breaks out of a rehab only to find himself checked back into another. His politician father, David (Cary Elwes), is intent on keeping the story quiet in the media, and this drives them farther apart. But once Charlie graduates to a halfway house run by the firm but understanding Travis (Common), Charlie and David have to deal with the harsh realities of addiction even if it costs his father a chance at being governor.
