Get Excited: The Byrds reissue Sweetheart of the Rodeo on 180gm translucent gold vinyl

Posted by Tori Vallen on

Country music doesn't get any finer than the tunes of Roger McGuinn. Unless of course, you throw Gram Parsons into the mix.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo is the sixth album by The Byrds. Originally released in 1968, the album represents a change in direction for the band as they made the decision to quieten down on the rock & psychedelia front and turn up the country charm. Although they'd dabbled in country sounds on previous albums, Sweeheart of the Rodeo represents their first 'pure' country effort. Gram Parsons, new to the band on this album, brought new elements including a more relaxed vibe and a simpler, more folky sound than they'd recorded previously. With this release, The Byrds began to appeal to a younger, more fashionable audience for the first time.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo is issued this time as a Limited 180gm audiophile translucent gold vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. Available from 27 January.
