Another round of funk, disco, club-oriented '80s R&B, and a little hip-hop are offered on the second round of Thump s Old School series, originally released during the early '90s and reissued in 2011. It s a somewhat random, grab-bag assortment -- as is the case with most other Old School volumes -- but Thump sticks to bona fide hits and cult classics. Among the more enduring selections: Mtume s Juicy Fruit, Vaughan Mason & Crew's Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll, the Brothers Johnson's Strawberry Letter 23, and James Brown's I Feel Good. There s a definite emphasis on the late 70s and the early 80s, and just about everything is essential.
